I did the Michelle Bridges Gym Ball workout the other day. Oh boy, I am still sore! So I guess that means it's a good workout! LOL.
Two days later I am still having trouble walking down stairs thanks to my thighs. Then to use my stomach, oh dear, that is agony! I did realise that my core strength was almost non existent but I didn't realise my thigh muscles were in such bad shape.
As the saying goes No Pain, No Gain! So I'm taking this pain as a good thing. Now to get through a Super Saturday Session, eeekkkk!

12WBT Round 4, Day 2
Today I met a friend at a small local gym. I had heard they were having an introductory special this month. $15 for 30 days. That includes the gym and classes.
We were just meeting there for a coffee as we heard there was a coffee shop there too. I really wanted to check the gym out first as it is not the usual sort of gym I have been a member at. This certainly has a lot of classes and good facilities, but it's not, I don't know, it's not all nice and sparkly. The last gym I was a member at had lovely change rooms, pretty new, hair dryers, shampoos, big TV screens to plug your headphones into the machines to listen to, treadmills with tv's built in. A little bit of luxury.
This gym is not like that. It has modern equipment. It's very clean. But it's not in a modern premises, there is NO luxury, it's very basic, sort of a no frills gym. But I wanted to have a look as for $15 for a month trial, it was almost too good to pass up. I want to give it a go. I don't know that I really need all of the luxury. I mean, really I don't use the hair dryers. But I did use the TV's.
When I arrived my friend was already there. She was at the counter filling in a form. I said Hi and was passed the form. I said "are we joining", she said "well yes, what did we come for?" I said "oh ok, I thought we were just checking the place out?" She said "well for $15 we may as well join and check it out for a month!" So I joined.
I am now a member of a gym for 30 days! I am not sure if I will keep going there after. The weekly price is almost the same as another gym near by, one that I have been a member of before. I cancelled that membership because I used to have an asthma attack whenever I went. Mainly when I was on the floor doing push-ups, sit-ups etc. I think the carpet was not well cleaned and I am allergic to dust. The thing that I like about my new no frills gym is there isn't any carpet. Therefore it will be good for my asthma, no dust mites can live in a hard floor. I was also hoping to find a gym with a pool, I really want to swim laps, but my no frills gym does not have a pool.
I know it sounds crazy, but I get so embarrassed going to the gym. I just feel like everyone is watching me, like they are wondering why someone my size is going there. Crazy I know as i don't think that way when I see people there.
Anyway I will keep you posted. I have the membership, now I just have to use it!

12WBT Round 4, Day 1
Today started well on this first day of round 4 12WBT.
As I have mentioned before, my focus on this round is exercise. I need to get my exercise mindset in check. For me round 3... Food mindset, check... Exercise mindset, cross.
So round 4 is going to be food mindset, check.... exercise mindset, CHECK!
I know this is going to be hard. I was doing my workout this morning and I was just saying to myself. I really don't like this. I know that's not a good thing to be thinking whilst you are bouncing away to Oz Style Aerobics and Michelle's super shredder DVD. I wasn't fully into her DVD I will admit. I'm hoping that will change. I do get a lot of amusement out of Aerobics Oz Style. I feel like I'm stepping into a time warp. I feel like I did when I was a kid and my mother was doing aerobics. The outfits are a sight to be seen!
But I did it. I did a workout and I will do it again. I have also seen that there is another Aerobics workout on Foxtel. It's on at 7am though, which is just way too late for me, so I recorded it this morning, then tomorrow I will be able to do today's, tomorrow and tomorrows the next day etc.
I am seriously considering about rejoining the gym. I just wonder about finding the time to go. I'm a single mum, so going outside of school hours isn't really an option as I can't leave my son on his own at night. So the only time I have is during school hours. But I work then! He is a little old to do childcare at the gym. I would consider leaving him during the day hours but never at night (not sure what the difference is between night and day but in my mind there is).
Anyway I haven't ruled out the gym. I have three that I am looking at. Will fill you in about those later.
I hope you are all having a good first day (for those doing this round of 12WBT) and for those not doing it, I hope that your goals and dreams are being fulfilled too!

Aerobics Oz Style
In my promise to JFDI, this morning I awoke at 5am to take my son to his morning sport at 5.30am. As I was up I decided to get on with some morning exercise.
With my DVD player broken and needing to get a new one I decided to turn on the TV as I had seen that there was an exercise show on at 5.30am each weekday morning. And there it was... Aerobics Oz Style. I have to say this was a flash back to my childhood. I remember my mum exercising to that show when I was growing up.
So I am dressed and ready to go. I have the TV on and the show starts. I have to say it made me chuckle. The series stopped being made in 2005 and had been running since 1983, so the episode that was on this morning was not from the modern 2005. The episode today was hosted by Michelle Dean and I think it's from the 90's. I almost felt like I was in an Olivia Newton John Physical video, LOL. It was a real blast from the past.
The workout started. I am not known for my co-ordination. I am glad that I was home alone during this workout as I know if my son was home he would have been laughing at me. But it wasn't too bad, I picked up the moves (that were being played to awesome 90's music, cool down/stretching was done to Randy Crawford, Give Me The Night). The one thing that I didn't like is there are ads! So you are doing a routine and then they cut to commercials and it's not the same rhythm and you have to try to keep the routine going during the ad break. Being extremely un-coordinated, I really do like having the person to follow, but with the ad break, there was nobody to follow and I was tripping over my feet, LOL.
I have set it to record again in the morning. So will continue at the moment as it suits me to exercise at home.
For anyone interested. Aerobics Oz Style is on Foxtel, Channel Aurora at 5.30am weekdays.

Aside from the ad breaks it was not too bad. I didn't mind it. I wish it went for an hour rather than just half an hour, but I have set it to record so I can always do it twice, or once I get my new video player I can do a video as well.

Task 7... The Fitness Test
Well today I completed the Fitness Test part of the 12wbt.
I had shin splints years and years ago and I find that if I walk without warming up they come back. Well today I took off in a very slow job (I am rather unfit now after months of not exercising) and I was in absolute agony! So bad that I was having trouble walking. I was very disappointed in my 9 minute 1km walk. It was rather embarrassing to be honest. I am really going to have to investigate this shin splint thing! I just can't understand how after my first jog in about 20 years, why within about 5 minutes I was in such incredible pain! For anyone who has never had them, they are excruciating. I wonder if it's my shoes? or the way I walk?
Anyway my 9 minute result put me in the Beginner category for the 12wbt. Then it was on to the push ups. Oh dear, I used to be good at those, LOL. In the one minute I did 26 of them which put me in the intermediate category.
Next was abdominal strength test. Well I don't have any abdominal strength, LOL. So I was in the beginner category for that test.
Next was the wall sit. I felt like I was sitting there for minutes. I was somewhat shocked when I stood up and my son stopped the stopwatch. It was only 35 seconds! Beginner again! My 12 year old son decided that the wall sit looked cool, so he wanted to try it. I reset the stop watch and he got into position. He was in a perfect right angle, perfect position. How long did he sit there? I was mortified! Mortified at how long I had sat there compared to him. He sat there for 3 minutes and 25 seconds! Yes, that's right! 3 minutes 25 seconds. He is starting rowing next term at school. He may be quite good at that with that leg strength!
The final test was Sit and Reach. With this test, we had to put our feet up to a step and have a ruler to measure how far forward we could reach. I made it to +4 cms (which was 4cms past my toes). This was the intermediate category.
Now to work out wether we are Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced for the 12wbt, we take the average of our fitness test. My average was Beginner.
Thank goodness that is over! I really don't like tests, of any kind. Have to do it all again at the 4 week mark, but I should be fitter by then and I'm looking forward to seeing my improvements.

I Did It!
I have just signed up.
I officially start the Michelle Bridges 12 week body transformation challenge on 27th August. Well really I have officially started now as there are steps you need to take in the weeks leading up to the start so that you are ready and rearing to go come start up day. I have to say I really like this. In the last challenge I did at the gym, there was no lead up, no getting ready, it was sign up, then a day or two before do your weight and measurements then off you went.
I am absolutely LOVING the fact that Michelle has incorporated the weeks prior to get your self ready, cleaning out your pantry.
It's not all about the gym too, which the last challenge at the gym was about. In this program there are options for home and outdoor work outs too! This is awesome as sometimes you don't always want to go to the gym and I love that I am going to be able to learn to exercise myself at home or around my neighbourhood and local park.
I also love that there will be menu plans and menus and shopping lists! I have to say with the last challenge that I did at the gym, I did have great success with it but really I did feel quite alone. I had a personal trainer who I saw once a week and to do my weigh ins, but there wasn't anything to help with diet other than to have protein shakes (which I enjoyed) and the different times to eat protein and keep a meal diary. I think when you have a weight problem, that has gone on for a long time you really need help with nutrition, not just exercise. It's a lifestyle change that is needed, help with both nutrition and with your exercise routine and I feel that Michelle Bridges challenge seems to cover all of this.
Anyway I have only just joined and just started looking around the website. I will spend the next couple of weeks getting myself all ready to start the challenge!
I'm Excited!!!!!

Ah The Pain
After my first two days at the gym I am still in agony. I have realised that after my session on Tuesday with the trainer and being so very sore in my legs and stomach (I have realised I must have virtually no core muscles, LOL). But I didn't rest, I'm determined to win this challenge so off to the gym I went yesterday.
By last night I was in agony. Every step was just a killer, getting up off the chair was almost impossible, moving hurt my lower stomach muscles so much. I had a wheat pack on my stomach and on my legs. I then decided to go and lie in a bath with some Epsom salts. That was absolute bliss, just sitting in the bath was giving so much relieve. After a while I dragged myself out.
I awoke this morning even worse. I thought that after a big session that the next day you can be sore, but I didn't realise it can get worse over 48 hours! (but it can, I have now read). So I contacted my trainer this morning as I was due to see her today at the gym. I explained that I was so unbelievably sore and she said that I really should rest today as the muscles do need time to rest when they are really sore.
I really didn't want to do no exercise today so I have just been for a light walk. Every step was painful, but I pushed through it and did about 45 minutes.
As the saying goes... "no pain, no gain". Well with all of the pain I'm experiencing, there had better be a great deal of gain, LOL.

FTC So Far
Today is day 5 of my Fenix Transformation Challenge.
I am going to head off to the gym shortly for a cardio session. Just the bike, treadmill and elliptical (which I hate, LOL). I did more of a light weights session with my personal trainer yesterday and I have to say I am in agony today, LOL. My arms are sore and oh my legs... they are sore with every step! My legs were like jelly for hours after the workout yesterday. But I am really enjoying it. The only annoying thing is that I have to take it easy and work up to more intensive workouts thanks to my high blood pressure and the vertebral artery dissection that I suffered from last year. So I feel as if I could do more, but am restricted to not getting my heart rate over 145.
Now the diet. I am still trying to get my head around that and get it all perfect but I'm doing pretty well I think. The diet is based on Metabolic Precision and from what I have read so far, you ultimately want to eat six times a day. With three of those meals being protein shakes. You have to have protein at certain times and carbs at certain times, around exercise, which I have been sticking to well. I have the guide printed up on my fridge to keep as a guide and I haven't been hungry once. In actual fact I am eating a lot more than I usually eat! I think my metabolism has slowed down to almost nothing or is it possible to actually have a negative metabolism, LOL. If it is I think that's what I have. The exciting thing is... is that I can still have my dark chocolate! I love dark chocolate and I think if I had to remove all of my very favourite things from my diet it would be harder to stick to, but having the chocolate makes it all fine and easy to stick too. Now when I say have dark chocolate, I'm sure they don't mean have a block or two a day. I have good quality organic dark chocolate and will have just one row or two a day. So with Metabolic Precision it's all about building up your muscles to increase your metabolism and burn more fat while in the end once your muscles have built up it will increase your metabolism enough so that you don't have to exercise 7 days a week to maintain, from what I can gather so far.
So I hopped on the scales today to just have a sneak peak to see if I was losing anything. After all it's not a week yet, its the beginning of my 5th day and I have lost just over 1kg (2.2 pounds), so that is exciting and encouraging!

Mothers Day Classic
I am so excited about Mothers Day this weekend. Not because of the breakfast in bed (that I will not be receiving, LOL) or about my gorgeous gift my son has purchased with his own money from the Mothers Day Stall at school (I will share some of the gifts I have received in the past over the weekend).
I will be spending my Mothers Day morning doing a 4km walk, in the Mothers Day Classic. http://mothersdayclassic.com.au/ The Mothers Day Classic has become a bit of a tradition in my family. My whole family participates, including my mum, we all walk together. I have friends who also go with their families, mothers, sisters, grandmothers, children (and the odd father and husband too). It's a really fun morning, a wonderful way to spend mothers day together, walking in the sunshine (please don't rain on Sunday), alongside the beautiful beach. Unfortunately I missed the walk last year as I had torn the artery in my neck a couple of days before, so was not able to exercise, or do very much at all actually. After the walk we all head out for breakfast, my family, my friends and their families. Anybody who decides not to walk (like me last year) meets us at the restaurant for breakfast after the walk.
The Mothers Day Classic is a great cause, its actually the biggest community fundraiser for breast cancer research in Australia. Walks/Runs happen at the same time right across the country and always on Mothers Day. There are walks in every major city in Australia and in over 28 regional towns across the country. Grandmothers, Mothers, Daughters, Fathers, Grandfathers, Sons, Aunts, Uncles all walking together for a very important cause. Babies and toddlers being pushed in prams, people being pushed in wheelchairs you name it, they are participating too. More than $7.8 million has been raised from this walk/run for breast cancer foundation since the even started years ago.
It's also very touching and emotional too. You get a number to pin to your top and on that is a space for you to write the name of a person or people you are dedicating your walk to or the person you are walking for. People write loved ones or friends battling breast cancer or those who lost their battle with breast cancer. It's a very moving walk as you walk around, seeing the names of those that have had this walk dedicated to by their loved one or friend. It is a wonderful community event and something that I can highly recommend to anybody who has not heard of it before.
If you want to find a walk near you, visit http://mothersdayclassic.com.au/events for a list of where the walks/runs around Australia are. Also if you would like to find more information, register for to do the walk or run or even to make a donation to this very important cause visit http://mothersdayclassic.com.au/
